Introduction..PB

My name is Prabath Adikaram, I go by the nickname PB. My major is Pre-Med/ Biology, I find this major very interesting due to its deep investigation into biology. This aspect combined with the hands on experience with the labs make it a very fascinating major. One of my biggest role models is my mother, she inspired me to follow in the path of health care. She was a nurse for over 30+ years, and showed me why the healthcare field is such a magical place. My longterm goal in life is to open up a free clinic for the unfortunate in my home country of Sri Lanka. This has always been a dream of mine, ever since I lost family of my own due to the trouble-ships with healthcare in Sri Lanka. This task however is not an easy task, it requires dedication, endurance and determination. I am on the right path so far and have support from not only my family but my friends as well. I try to surround myself with people that push me to be great and follow the same dreams and ambitions as I do. Aside from career and educational goals, I do enjoy free time with my peers. I enjoy listening to music and watching movies with my friends and peers. I enjoy sports and physical activities. One of my hobbies is drawing and producing music, which I found an interest in the last couple years. My friends support my hobbies and help me improve in my hobbies. I have always been a huge fan of learning new things and music was a great start to this adventure. Aside from myself, I look forward to learning in this course and finding new aspects that I would enjoy learning about. I hope everyone reading this has a great semester and good luck to all.

This is a picture of my producing setup. I spend a lot of my time here.

  1. Hey Prabath! Wow! It is so refreshing to see someone with such a selfless ambition like yourself. I will admit that I personally have mostly selfish reasons for pursuing the career path that I am currently pursuing. The fact that you have a family and friend circle that is always there to back you up on important decisions should feel great, my friends are also like that with me and I am very blessed to have that in my life. Also, that IS a clean set up. Good stuff.

  2. It is so great to have someone from Sri Lanka in this class, PB! And maybe you will share some of your music with us: that would be so cool! And if you want to use this class to learn more about Sri Lanka, that might be useful to you in the future, and it would be such a great contribution to the class to learn about Sri Lanka together with you. Because of the Ramayana, there is a lot of tourism in Sri Lanka connected with that epic (Ramayana tours in Sri Lanka - link), but I am guessing that like so much tourism, that industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. Maybe you will also find some ways to use Twitter to connect with what's going on in Sri Lanka; I really rely on Twitter to connect with people in India, read the news, find out about writers and music and so on. There's one Twitter feed I follow from Sri Lanka: CPA Sri Lanka - link which is a public policy thinktank. Anyway, I bet there is all kinds of wonderful Sri Lankan Twitter waiting to be discovered, and if I see something good while I'm poking around Twitter, I will let you know. :-)

  3. Hi PB! It's great to meet you. I really admire the fact that you have such a forthright career goal. I think that it's great that you were inspired by your family and that you value your home-country so much. I truly hope that you are able to achieve this one day. For me, my culture and heritage is an important part of who I am and to be able to do something that helps my ancestral country would be so rewarding. Best of luck to you in the future!

  4. Hi PB,
It's nice to meet you. It's cute that one of your biggest motivators is your mom. I respect your decision to try to pursue a career in the medical field. I hope that you are able to achieve what you want and get into the medical school that you want. I saw that you like to create music as a hobby. You should post some tracks for us sometime so we can hear what you create,

  5. Hey PB!
So good to meet ya. I think your interests in biology are so notable because I am terrible in the sciences area, I have always been interested in it, but I am not smart enough for all of that. You definitely have to share some of the music that you have produced! A shameless plug haha. I think that is super cool of you and I wish I had the talent for music like you do. Your set up looks super cool! I look forward to reading your writing this semester!

  6. Hi PB! I have to say, I was distracted by your amazing musical setup (in a good way). I also love music, although I can’t produce anything, and I can’t play any instruments. I do sing though! It has been a really good way te relieve stress. I’m sure music serves the same purpose for you, especially considering you are a biology pre-med student! I know with your ambition, you’ll get to where you want to be!

  7. Hey PB,

It's very nice to meet you. My major is also biology and I also enjoy the hands on experience we get in labs. I find surrounding yourself with dependable and people that push you to be great is very important. Me and you share a lot of the same hobbies, I also enjoy sports and physical activities. I would really like to hear some of your music sometime. Would you mind dropping a link ?

  8. Hey PB! I think its super cool that you're from Sri Lanka. Being from Pakistan, I have met several people from India, Bangladesh, all of the surrounding countries, but never anyone from Sri Lanka! That is awesome. We are similar in a way that we are both pre med, and both want to open up clinics back in the countries that we are from! Great stuff, nice to meet you!!

  9. Hey, PB! I must admit, I definitely fixated on your music production setup for a cool minute before I read your bio. I've been getting into music production myself. Do I spy a Scarlett 2i2 gen 3 interface? I have one myself and it's been a pleasure to work with. Though, admittedly, I use mine to record my playing than I do to produce electronic music. But I really dig your setup, including the typing keyboard and the midi keyboard (it looks like a 49 key, but is it an AKAI? I can't read the brand from here and I'm curious lol). Also, what DAW are you using? It kinda looks like some form of ProTools to me, but I'm not certain. I usually use a combination of Ableton and Reaper (depending on the sound I'm going for) for production, ProTools to record, and Audacity to fill in the gaps all around.

Sorry to geek out on the tech side of things, but it's really nice to see somebody else interested in music production.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  10. Hi PB,
We have a lot of pre-med people in this class! I am a pre-med student as well, so I have a feeling we've had a lot of similar class experiences. I hope your semester is going amazing so far! Your goal to establish a health facility in Sri Lanka is absolutely incredible and so inspiring. I have full faith in you that you can do it! There are so many additional aspects beyond simply medicine behind such an endeavor, but with your broad range of interests and abilities, it looks like you're the perfect person for the job.

  11. Hi PB!
I think your inclusion of your mother in your introduction is so touching! I could really tell when you wrote about her that you love her dearly and it was very nice to read. Also, on a side note, what kinds of tv shows and music do you listen to? I'm always open to suggestions when it comes to movies and music. Have an excellent day PB!

  12. Hey PB, your story is so inspirational and I am sure if your mother read this, she would probably shed a few tears! Your passion to work in health care is something that we have seen throughout health care workers working on the front line during the national pandemic, and I have no doubt that you will be just as driven and caring as they are. Your enthusiasm for each of your various interests is so encouraging and I wish you all of the best.

That is an amazing goal that you aspire to achieve and I wish you the best with it. I am sure you will do extremely well as it seems you have a true passion for it. It is amazing how one person can change the lives of many and I believe you will change many people's lives for the better in Sri Lanka.

  15. Hi PB,
I love that you are a Biology major pursuing pre-med. I am a microbiology major pursuing pre-pharmacy! The way you described your mom as your role model is truly inspiring as I feel the same way about my mother. I think something about having Asian moms is just so powerful for us children.
